Supporting Wall of a Former Metal Factory in Villerupt

pictures

description

brief description:

the mighty supporting wall of a former metal factory was built toward the end of the 19th century and extends hundreds of metres along a hill in the village of Villerupt. The wall reaches a maximum height of 30 m and is entirely made of stone. Originally, it supported the ridge of the hill, next to which stood a factory, which has in the meantime been demolished. The rearmost part of the wall is crisscrossed by brick arches spreading over several floors, which used to house workshops. Today, they are open to the front and, in part, collapsed.
