Niederburg Castle in Manderscheid

brief description:

Niederburg and Oberburg form a beautiful, exceptional ensemble of two medieval castles, staggered one behind the other on two steep rocks in the Eifel town of Manderscheid. Tucked into the hollow of a valley, Niederburg Castle stands majestically atop a steep rock, with several private historic buildings at its feet housing ticket and cashier windows, shops, gastronomy, a recreation room and sanitary facilities. The castle ruins are enclosed by massive defensive walls. Throning above the ruins is the tower, accessible to visitors. The remains of surrounding historic buildings and the dungeon are also still in existence. Rocky ground leads to the highest point within the castle complex, from where visitors can enjoy a wonderful expansive view across the valley to the ruins of Oberburg Castle.
