Church and rock Dabo

description

brief description:

tucked away in the very heart of the northern Vosges Mountains, between Sarrebourg, Phalsbourg and Saverne, is the small village of Dabo. Its main monument is the ``Rocher de Dab´´, an impressive red sandstone rock, which stands 647 metres tall and is surmounted by the Chapelle St. Léon, which was built in 1825 in honour of Pope Leo IX. The chapel was erected on the grounds where, two centuries earlier, Dabo Castle stood before it was destroyed in the 17th century by Louis XIV King of France. An informal Franco-German summit between President François Mitterand and Chancellor Helmut Kohl took place in Dabo on July 19, 1983.
